We are very proud of our team player, Sofie Junge Pedersen for winning the Marcus Rashford Award! Inspired by Rashford’s efforts to combat child food poverty, this prize is given to athletes, executives, and employees whose actions promote positive societal change.
Sofie’s recognition is thanks to her initiative during this summer’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. Sofie led a collective of 47 players from 7 different countries to take responsibility for the environmental impact of their flights to and from the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023.
She called on her fellow World Cup players to compensate for their flights through Danish Church Aid’s climate work in Uganda or the World Wide Fund for Nature’s initiatives in the host nations. Thanks to the help of the organizations Common Goal and Football for Future as well as Canadian midfielder Jessie Fleming and Italian defender Elena Linari, Sofie is the leader of the world’s largest player-led initiative so far.
Thank you, Sofie, for being a continuous example of how we all have a #Role2Play. Let’s celebrate her dedication to making a real difference on and off the pitch!
