We Play Green, led by founder Morten Thorsby, takes pride in its participation as a “challenger” within Telia’s “Utfordrerfond” (Challenger Fund) campaign. Together with like-minded individuals, we are being recognized for pushing the boundaries to create a more environmentally and socially conscious society!
Morten stands out as a challenger thanks to his creation of We Play Green, a player movement that’s speeding up the green shift. Noteworthy is Morten’s decision to play with the #2, which is a symbolic reference to keeping global warming under 2 degrees as decided in the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement.
He is also being recognized for his participation in the “We Play Green Collection”. If Morten wins this challenger campaign, the funding will help We Play Green create sustainable football equipment. The “WPG Collection” is a service for clubs to rent uniforms, extending their lifespan through reuse and maintenance.
Football kits, primarily plastic, are challenging to recycle, and our initiative addresses environmental concerns while supporting clubs financially. By consolidating purchases, we set stricter sustainability standards. This initiative aims to make participation more accessible by preventing financial barriers and implementing a sustainability culture in the club. The WPG collection is set to pilot at the beginning of the 2024/25 season.
Stay tuned as the upcoming “Challenger of the Year” vote will open soon!
