Purpose

To recruit, inspire, and activate players to help build Green Will across the global football family.

About the project

Players have enormous influence — their words and actions inspire millions. Yet when it comes to environmental engagement, players reflect society at large — not more, not less. Recruiting them to use their image, voice, and channels to help build Green Will therefore requires both inspiration and support.

We Play Green has designed the Player Community to achieve this at scale — a platform that inspires players, equips them with knowledge, and supports them in using their influence for the planet.

To reach groups of players, We Play Green collaborates with clubs and national associations, including national teams. We have developed tailored value propositions for both, and UEFA is supporting We Play Green in gaining access to national teams.

The learning and tutorial platform will train players on the triple crisis — pollution, nature loss, and global warming — with content developed in collaboration with academic and expert partners. Later, the same platform and materials will be adapted for grassroots players, fans, and supporters, ensuring that knowledge and engagement reach every level of the game.

Because many players hesitate to speak publicly on topics they feel uncertain about — and their time is limited — We Play Green will provide a dedicated support team to assist with content creation and channel management.

How it works

Players are introduced and inspired through Inspiration Days — in-person sessions held at clubs and national team camps. These can be full-day, half-day, or short one-hour events, depending on available time.

The training platform is mobile-friendly and intuitive — designed for the devices players use most. The support team works proactively with players according to a shared schedule and activation plan, ensuring consistent engagement and visible impact.
